We're an independent research group focused on AI literacy and information quality. Our work sits at the intersection of technical AI research and public communication -translating complex developments into forms that help people make informed decisions.

MidnightAI emerged from a simple observation: the people building transformative AI systems are having urgent conversations about timelines, risks, and alignment that rarely reach the broader public. We believe democratic societies need access to this information to make informed choices about how AI development should proceed.

Our approach is to be rigorous without being academic, accessible without being simplistic. We cite our sources, explain our reasoning, and invite scrutiny. If we're wrong about something, we want to know.

Intellectual Foundations

The conceptual model for MidnightAI draws from the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, founded in 1947 by Manhattan Project scientists including Albert Einstein and J. Robert Oppenheimer. Their Doomsday Clock demonstrated that complex existential risks can be communicated to the public in accessible ways without sacrificing rigor.

We also build on work from the AI safety research community -organizations like Anthropic's alignment team, the Future of Life Institute,80,000 Hours, and researchers at academic institutions who have been thinking carefully about these problems for years.
